A Surprise 50th Birthday Party!
A GOURMET DESSERT BUFFET FOR THE SWEETEST PERSON WE KNOW
Planning a surprise party, for the person who knows all your secrets is probably one of the hardest things to do! That was the case when we planned our amazing mom’s 50th birthday party… I still can’t believe we pulled it off without her realizing it.
PASSION FOR GOOD FOOD AND FAMILY GATHERINGS
Our mom, Angelina, is one of the kindest, most giving person you will ever meet. Always putting her family first, always cooking, and making, prepping and planning, and never stopping, not even for a minute, to catch her breath. She has spoiled us; rotten I might say. But with all that unconditional love and devotion she has instilled in us a passion for food and a tireless work ethic.
HOW DO YOU SURPRISE SOMEONE
WHO KNOWS YOU INSIDE AND OUT?
Having started My Sweet Array, a Maryland catering and decor service that specializes in dessert buffets, we created this “event” and “client” we were working with and talked to her about it openly. We asked for her advice on the dessert buffet and any ideas she might have for this party. She knew the date, the theme, the details… all the desserts that were planned for. She suggested that we go with corals pinks and golds (her favorite colors of course), fresh fruit and lots of little details. She just didn’t know that this wonderful client…was HER!
The dessert menu, included: mini raspberry and blueberry fruit tarts, lemon curd tarts, and more eclairs than we can count. Chocolate, dulce de leche, salted caramel, vanilla and strawberry eclairs (including a tower!!), countless meringues, chocolate covered strawberries and of course, our signature macaron cake. An airy and light vanilla cake sitting on top of 200 mouthwatering macarons....
Macaron or Macaroon?
(pronounced maca-RHON. Lots of people confuse them with macaroons, but that's a completely different dessert! We'll have a blog about the differences soon...) .
All of our family and friends received an invitation, and were asked to keep this under wraps. The biggest surprise was that our brother flew from Seattle to surprise her for the big day. I have to say, as amazing as the party was, seeing Luka was probably more than enough for her! Needless to say, we wanted this to be even more special.
it's all in the details.
So our course, she knew we were planning SOMETHING now that Luka was here. She just didn’t know what it was. With our wonderful friend and photographer Kimberly Tucker, we planned a family photoshoot the morning of the event, which we all dressed up for. Maria and I had to leave right after, to prep for our client's party, but we promised to meet them for dinner at Lighthouse Sound; a picturesque venue that overlooks a golf course in Ocean City, MD.
When she came around the corner and into the venue, the music blasted her favorite song by Giannis Parios (any Greek fans out there?) and the rest is history…
To quote our dad… she deserved all of it and more.
